General Kosovo Pictures

You can skip to a section --> Kosovo Life | Pristina Buildings | Other Cities
There are many nice locations outside the hustle and bustle of Pristina.  As I continue to travel around Kosovo, I will try to update the photos with some of the scenery and places to visit.

Unfortunately I did not notice the name of the village when we entered but as we passed, I saw the market and wanted to get some photos.

I have no idea what these represent but there are two of these sculptures, one on each side of the inner sanctum in the church. - Jun 07

Decani Monastery
Old door knockers...very cool! - Jun 07

Decani Monastery
I was pleasantly suprised that we were allowed to take pictures in the outer sanctum of the church.  There were many murals on the walls in very good condition - Jun 07

Decani Monastery
A mural of Jesus Christ above the entrance of the inner sanctum - Jun 07

Labour Day
The eyes on this mural have been taken out.  A friend said that the Orthodox sometimes used to remove the eyes as they believed the eyes of the saintly figures held medicinal/spiritual healing powers.  The church walls have also been defaced over time during ethnic conflict - Jun 07

Peja/Pec
Destroyed during the war, the ruins of this church sit outside Peja - Jun 07

Peja Municipality Building
It's hard to miss the municipality building in Peja as it does boast some fairly interesting architecture! - Jun 07

Cigarette Sculpture in Peja
Who said buying cigarettes couldn't be artistic? - Jun 07

Peja
With low water reservoirs, it looks like the flowers in this circle garden in Peja have been left to fend for themselves - Jun 07

Ramush Haradinaj
Giving Bill Clinton a run for his money...I found this three story poster of Ramush in Decani - Jun 07

Cement Factory
It's one of the landmarks at the Kosovo-Macedonia border.  You know you are coming into Kosovo when you see the big factory.  For a long time, many of us thought that the old building was abandoned but as you can see from the shot that I took, parts of the factory are still operational!  It comes as bit of a surprise as the building is in poor shape with missing windows and the appearance of being run-down - April 07

Martyr Grave near Vushtrri - April 2007

The battery plant in south Mitrovica - April 2007

Sparky's American Grill in South Mitrovica - April 2007

TMK Battalion at Vushtrri - April 2007

Obilic (Chern-obilic as appropriately nicknamed) is the coal-power plan located near the capital, Pristina. The coal dust created quite a pollution problem and there is a fine dust over Pristina. Depending on the way the wind blows, the pollution goes north to Mitrovica, south to Macedonia, or west to Pristina. When the wind is blowing towards Pristina, there is a thick brown cloud hanging over the city as you come down the hill from Gracanica. It is quite a sight (disturbing to think that you are breathing it in all day!) to see!

Kosovo A - April 2007

A shot of both Kosovo power plants A&B - April 2007
