Independence Day - 17 February 2008

On 17 February at approximately 1530 CET Kosovo PM Haschim Thaci declared Kosovo "democratic and independent" and the celebrations began. Actually the celebrations started the day before with Kosovo Albanians displaying Albanian, US, German, UK, and other EU flags in abundance around Kosovo. Braving freezing temperatures and snow, revelers in the thousands poured out onto the streets to celebrate becoming the world's newest state.

Hotel Afa is ready for independence...are you??? Oh, and you should read the fine print on the sign. It says "Independence. Hotel Afa is ready...for citizens of countries who recognize Kosova's independence." That translates into a 10% discount of citizens of countries who officially recognize Kosovo's independence!
